Herman Obuhov

Herman Obuhov was born on 27 November, 1949 in Chelyabinsk, USSR. In 1966 he finished Minsk secondary school №1 and in 1975 he graduated from Leningrad Electrotechnical University (LETI) with a Master’s degree in radio-electronics (MSEE).

He is the author of 5 books: Extinguished Dawn 15 Years Later, Confiscated Letters, The Time of Filibusters, Bottomless, The Stolen Country.

He has also written more than 300 articles and 6 screenplays: Flight to Johannesburg, Gold Bird in Gold Cage, New Jersey Turnpike, My Alaska, Titian’s Gift, President Putin & Russian mob.

Dissidence, samizdat (underground press), wrote “Extinguished Dawn”, an anti-communist book;
1981
Arrest by KGB and sentenced by Leningrad City Court to 4 years of labor camps and 2 years of exile under Art. 70 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR “Anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda”;
1981 - 1987
«Political» labor camps in Perm District and exile in Khabarovsk District;
1985
President Reagan’s invitation to the United States, US Congress granted political asylum in advance;
1988
Political emigration to the UK by the invitation of Amnesty International. Publications in all leading media, interviews on the BBC, speeches at universities. Moving to the USA;

Worked at Yale University Medical Center, Founder and Chief Executive of the Russian-American Council for Economic Development (RACED) in partnership with Anatoly Sobchak, St. Petersburg Mayor, and Christopher Shays, US Congressman;
